The Swarthmore-Rutledge School Home & School Association is a non-profit, public health 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to enhancing and enriching the education of SRS students and to engaging parents across all grade levels to fulfill that goal. All parents, administrators, faculty and staff are members of SRS Home & School.
How We Fulfill that Mission
The Home & School Association (H&S) supports school programs by raising funds and providing volunteers. Parents are encouraged to become involved with our H&S – we provide many opportunities at different levels of time and effort commitment, so that all parents can find a volunteer role that works for them. Parent involvement is integral in maintaining a robust H&S Association. Research shows that parental involvement in school – more than parent income and educational level – is crucial in fostering a positive school experience for their children. To volunteer or get more information about available opportunities parents can contact the Volunteer Coordinator, their Grade Representatives, their Homeroom Parents or the H&S Co-Presidents.
Home & School runs events and activities to support curricular and classroom lessons at every grade level. H&S also hosts family events to build community and raise money to support these programs – fundraisers and FUNraisers! All of the activities of H&S are fully funded by family donations, with no funding from the WSSD.
H&S holds monthly meetings to report on events and activities, discuss budgeting matters, and address general comments and concerns. All parents are invited and encouraged to attend these meeting, usually held on the third Wednesday of each month from September through May (excepting December) at 7:00pm in the SRS library (confirm dates/times on the H&S calendar). Attendance at H&S meetings promotes a better understanding among parents, teachers and administrators by providing an open and welcoming forum for discussion.
The primary vehicles for H&S communications are the Friday e-blasts and the SRSKIDS.org website. H&S also publishes the annual Family Directory, which is a resource for family contact information, school contacts and policies, and advertisements by local organizations that provide services for children and families. The Directory contains a full list of all H&S officers and board members.
Home & School is a tax-exempt organization. All donations made to the Home & School Association are tax deductible.
