Parent participation is encouraged in every activity of the Home and School Association. The Home and School Association supports school programs by raising funds and providing volunteers. Parents are encouraged to become involved as grade representatives or room parents and for fundraisers and events. Parents can also volunteer in the classroom, nurse’s office, library and in enrichment programs.

Homeroom Parent
Collects and types phone list data. Calls a section of the class list as needed. Assists with classroom parties and/or functions at the teacher’s request. Usually a shared duty.
Library Volunteer
Aids the library staff with shelving books and assists students with book selection.
Health Screening Volunteer
Records health information for the nurses during grade level health screenings during the school day.
Art Volunteer
Works with the art teacher as a classroom assistant during art specials.
Art Goes to School
Following a training program, volunteers will go to classes throughout the district to instruct students on the lives and works of a wide spectrum of artists. Group meets once a week on Tuesdays for two months in the fall and two months in the spring
Teacher Appreciation
Volunteer to make or bake a salad, main course or dessert for several of the teacher appreciation meals Home & School sponsors throughout the year.
Publicity
Assist the publicity chairperson with taking photos and gathering information about classroom activities for publication on this web site and in the local media.
Grounds clean-up
Assist in sprucing up the grounds on a scheduled Saturday workday (once in the fall and once in the spring). Jobs may include weeding, mulch-spreading and plant maintenance.
Grade Level Events/Projects
2nd Grade Children’s Garden
Aid with the creation of a teaching garden. Volunteers are needed during the day to work with students and possibly after school and weekends for ground preparation.
3rd Grade African Dance
Help with the exciting and joyful African Dance performance in June which marks culmination of an workshop for 3rd graders.
4th Grade Pumpkin Sale
Assist the chairperson with sorting pumpkins and pricing on the day of the event and/or working the night of the sale.
5th Grade Art Project
Works with the art teacher, artist-in-residence and students to create a permanent piece of art for the school. Creation of art takes place in the spring. Artist selection usually occurs in fall.
Fundraisers and Family Events
Back to School Picnic
Aid the chairs in the work of the picnic. Jobs may include set-up, clean-up, managing a children’s game or serving food.
Sally Foster Gift Wrap
Aid the chairs in sorting the pre-packaged orders by classroom. Job usually takes several hours on the day gift wrap is delivered (November 15-November 21 in the Auditorium)
Fall Festival
A fall celebration for the school. Volunteers are needed to help sort books in the morning of the Festival for the Book Swap, to help scoop ice cream, and to bake for the bake sale. Please circle your preference on the form.
Family Bingo Night
Volunteers are needed to help solicit donations for the raffles, to work the BINGO games, and to sell food. Assistance with set-up and clean-up is also needed. Always looking for a BINGO caller as well!
Book Fair
Volunteers are needed to set-up and break down the fair as well as work the actual sale. Most sale hours are during the school day. Great job for book lovers – lots of time for browsing.
Math and Technology Night
Volunteers are needed to staff math and technology game tables the night of the event.
Family Dinner Dance
Help is needed with set-up, food, snacks and decorations.
SRS Spirit Wear Sales
Assist chairs with tallying orders and distributing orders to students.
